Children in prostitution in the capital of the tenth worst country in the world to be a child suffer the collateral effects of China's large economic landing in Sierra Leone, mistrust and neglect by local authorities and continued exposure to sexually transmitted diseases.
But the girls like to talk about their dreams rather than fears or illnesses. Dreams like that of Habba Stevens, who is studying to be a doctor, which is why she goes to school in the mornings. "I want to dedicate myself to helping people," she says. Dreams like Isatu Kamara's, who wants to get off the street, go back to school and become a lawyer. "To help girls like us and also for the money," she justifies with a smile.
A book that manages to bring their voices out of the Slum and make them reach the whole world. A book that denounces violence, machismo, helplessness and isolation. An instrument to give a name, thanks to Don Bosco Fambul, to the 1,000 girls living in prostitution in Sierra Leone.
Girls with No Name. The Book, will be a tool to expand their message.
